Alliance for the Arts features series by Sanibel artist –

Sanibel-based artist Myra Roberts is exhibiting a selection of paintings in the Theatre Gallery at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers throughout the month of May.

Much of Roberts’ educational work has focused on portraits and/or social commentary issues. The works on display at the Alliance for the Arts are from her new series, titled “Spokeswoman.”

“Spokeswoman” features remarkable women from the United States and throughout the world – living and deceased – who represent women’s empowerment and/or the ongoing struggle for human rights. Her subjects include Shirley Chisholm, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Aretha Franklin, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Audrey Hepburn, Anita Hill, Frida Kahlo, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi and Malala Yousafzai.

The opening reception for the four artists was held on May 3.

The Alliance for the Arts is at 10091 McGregor Blvd.
