The Builth Wells Rotary Club held a Young Writers competition held this year for the first time and had eleven entries from the Ysgol Calon Cymru Builth Wells campus.
The young people were invited to create a 500-word story having been given the word ‘Inspiration’.
Selected by four judges the winning entry was a creation by 14-year old Yazmin Jones who tells in her story of the last moments on the school bus before the young Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai, was shot by the Taliban.
Yazmin was presented with her prize by the President of Builth Wells Rotary Club Dave Mussell during a ceremony at the school campus this week.
There were two runners up Dafydd Woodland and Bran Davies who were both highly commended.
The other entrants received commended awards and included Eve Stewart-Brown, Harvey Brooking, Rhiannon Bradley, Lucy M Brown, Kirsten Tabberer, Lani Gethin, Isabelle Frewin and Elena Probert.
Also in the photograph are Anwen Nicholls, the Head of English at the school and Rotarian Ciaran O’Connell who organised the competition for the Builth Wells Rotary Club.
